Construction kicked off this week for the second phase of a new affordable housing development from BFC Partners in Coney Island, 6sqft reports.
The $189-million project, located at 1607 Surf Avenue, will consist of 376 residential units, 9,000 square feet of community space, 11,000 square feet of commercial uses, and a new primary care clinic to be operated by New York City Health and Hospital Corporation. Other project components include a landscaped rooftop deck, a fitness room, a chidlren's play area, and parking for 61 vehicles.
Plans call for a mix of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, including 57 units to be reserved for formerly homeless households. The remaining units will be priced for households earning between 40 and 90 percent of the area median income level, which translates to a family of three earning between $42,960 and $96,600 annually.
The project is the second component of a three-phase development on Coney Island - the first phase of which brought 400 affordable units to the neighborhood last year.
BFC Partner is building the project with funding from the NYC Department of Housing and Preservation and the NYC Housing Development Corporation.
