The Alexan NoHo West, located on an L-shaped site at the southwest corner of Radford Avenue and Erwin Street, will consist of two separate buildings featuring 644 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments - averaging just over 800 feet in size - in addition to parking.
The first building, a podium-type structure fronting Erwin Street which is already fully-framed, stands six stories in height at its peak. The roofline of the apartment complex gradually steps down toward Erwin Street, giving it a stepped appearance.
The second apartment building, a seven-story structure, will wrap a central parking garage. The wood-frame structure is split into multiple masses, separated by courtyard areas.
Both of the apartment buildings are being designed by AO. Renderings depict contemporary low-rise structures, similar to other new housing developments in the North Hollywood area.
According to a landing page on the Trammell Crow Residential website, completion of the Alexan is expected to occur in phases between late December 2021 and April 2023.
The Alexan was approved as part of a larger master plan for the former Laurel Plaza site by co-developers Merlone Geier Partners and GPI Companies. Those companies already completed a partial redevelopment of the site with a 190,000-square-foot shopping mall, as well as the conversion of former Macy's department into 500,000 square feet of office space.
Commercial tenants at NoHo West include 24 Hour Fitness, Fantastic Sams, Jersey Mike's, Regal Cinemas, Robeks, See's Candies, Starbucks, and Trader Joe's.
Trammell Crow Residential's other Los Angeles area developments include a 436-unit apartment complex proposed next to Metro's Monrovia Station and a high-rise complex planned near the Long Beach World Trade Center.
