Construction has reached the halfway mark Whittier Place II, non-profit developer East L.A. Community Corp. announced in a recent newsletter.

The more than $23-million development, located at 4101-4117 Whittier Boulevard, consists of a four-story edifice that will feature 34 studio and one-bedroom apartments at completion.  All of the residences will be reserved for formerly unhoused veterans.

Whittier Place II will be restricted to households earning no more than 50 percent of the area median income.  According to a 2019 staff report to the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, rents are expected to range from $848 to $909 per month.

GGA is designing the apartment complex.

The project, as its name would imply, is a sister-development to the Whittier Place apartments - a neighboring three-story building that consists of 24 residential units.

Other ELACC projects now in development include the El Nuevo Amanecer apartments in East Los Angeles (which recently restarted construction) and the Rosa de Castilla project in El Sereno.
