In Carson, the wood frame of a new affordable housing development by Thomas Safran & Associates is taking shape.

The project, called Veterans Village, is located on a property at the corner of Carson and Figueroa Streets.  Plans call for a four-story edifice containing 51 apartments reserved wholly for veterans.  The completed building will offer a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans, in addition to 2,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space and parking for 73 vehicles.

Veterans Village will cater to householders earning no more than 60 percent of the area median income, with rents to be set between $326 and $1,345 per month.  Carson residents will be given first choice of the apartments, according to the developer.

Withee Malcolm Architects is designing the project, which would be highlighted by a clocktower element at the intersection of Carson and Figueroa.

Completion is anticipated in Fall 2019.

Elsewhere in Carson, Meta Housing Corp. has broken ground on a 46-unit affordable apartment complex catering to artists.
