After a contentious approval process, UCLA is on pace to begin construction this for new student housing at multiple sites across its Westwood campus.

Lot 15 Residence Hall

At the northwest corner of campus, UCLA will replace the existing Lot 15 with a pair of eight-story buildings containing 1,781 beds for first- and second-year undergraduate students.  The approximately 343,000-square-foot mid-rise complex will also contain 32,000 square feet of common spaces.

Construction at Lot 15 is scheduled to begin during Fall quarter, with completion anticipated in 2021 according to a prior environmental study.

Margan Apartments

Just off the main campus at 885 Levering Avenue, UCLA has already demolished a 1960s apartment complex, allowing for the construction of a 10-story building at the site.  At completion, the new building will feature 216 student beds in 42 apartments for use by undergraduate students.

A timeline for the project has not been published at this point in time.

Southwest Campus Apartments

UCLA will raze the existing Warren Hall and Hillblom Center at 900 Weyburn Place North to make way for the construction of three buildings - ranging between eight and ten stories in height.  Plans call for 321 graduate student beds and 1,958 upper-division undergraduate beds in a mix of two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartments.

The new buildings would also include ancillary features such as a common study, meeting space laundry facilities, a mailroom, and multi-purpose space.

Demolition of Warren Hall and Hillblom Center are scheduled to begin in Winter quarter, with completion set to occur in 2022.

LeConte Apartments

The tallest of the new buildings would replace the UCLA Extension building at the intersection of LeConte, Gayley, and Levering Avenues with a 17-story tower featuring 1,159 student beds.  The roughly 300,000-square-foot building would provide 12,700 square feet of commons space.

A construction timeline for the proposed tower has also yet to be announced, although the project's environmental study anticipated completion in mid-2021.

The current pipeline buildings would create a total 5,435 student beds.  This would represent approximately 78 percent of the 6,900 student beds UCLA intends to build as part of its 2016-2016 Student Housing plan.

Underutilized sites near Bradley International Hall and Drake Stadium could be used for the construction of an additional 1,400 student beds, with construction anticipated to begin in 2022 and 2023 respectively.
