The proposal to construct a Sunset Strip outpost of London's Arts Club has taken a step forward, with the publication of a draft environmental impact report for the project.

The proposed development, slated for a 20,000-square-foot site at 8920 Sunset Boulevard, would replace a holdover from the Strip's seedier past - the Hustler Store.  Plans call for a nine-story, 141-foot-tall building that would feature 132,000-square-feet of space catering to members interested in "fine arts, architecture, fashion, film, literature, music, performance, photography, science, theatre and TV/media."  A project website goes on to describe the Arts Club as "a place where creative and entrepreneurial minds come together to meet, exchange ideas, dine and be entertained."

At ground-level, the West Hollywood Arts Club would feature commercial space for "boutique, community-serving retailers" as well as gallery space.

Gensler is designing the mid-rise edifice, which is intended to attain LEED Silver certification.  The building will include "green" features such as a landscaped roof deck, a stormwater retention system and high-efficiency heating and cooling systems.

The Arts Club is one of a handful of mid-rise developments reshaping the Sunset Strip, following the recently-completed Sunset La Cienega project.  Also under construction are a flagship Marriott Edition and a Time hotel.
