Construction is underway for a new hotel just south of the Long Beach Airport.

Property owner YHB Hospitality is building a six-story, 125-room Staybridge Suites hotel at 2640 Lakewood Boulevard, adjacent to an existing Holiday Inn.  The new construction replaces a two-story hotel from the 1970s.

The new hotel will share an outdoor pool area and parking areas with the Holiday Inn, a 13-story building containing 172 guest rooms.  Current parking facilities on the property can accommodate 345 vehicles, less than the 375 spaces that are anticipated to serve project needs.  The construction of a new two-story garage will increase total on-site parking to 385 stalls - a surplus of 10 to 62 spaces.

AXIS/GFA is designing the Staybridge Suites, which is depicted in renderings with a contemporary look.

Long Beach Airport, located just north on Lakewood Boulevard, is poised to undergo a $75-million renovation by the year 2021.
