The wrapping has come off at 6630 Sunset Boulevard, site of a mixed-use housing project from A.J. Khair Development & Construction

The six-story building, located mid-block between Cherokee Avenue and Seward Street, will include 35 studio and one-bedroom apartments above ground-floor retail space and parking for 49 vehicles.

While the new apartments are ground-up construction, designed by Ken Stockton Architects, the project also includes a historic preservation component.  A.J. Khair has retained the facade of a 1920s Streamline Modern structure at 6634 Sunset Boulevard, which is being folded into the apartment building's ground floor.

The development site sits across Sunset Boulevard from the historic Crossroads of the World campus, which Harridge Development Group intends to incorporate into a new high-rise complex featuring housing, commercial space, and a hotel.

Another developer, Millennium Partners, recently announced plans to build a mid-rise office building less than a quarter-mile east at Sunset Boulevard and Wilcox Avenue.

A.J. Khair's other developments include hotel and residential projects.  The company is now building a 60-unit apartment building in Silver Lake.
