Los Angeles-based real estate developer Urban Stearns has announced plans for a multifamily residential complex in Westlake.

The project, which would replace a vacant lot at 1350 W. Court Street, calls for the construction of a six-story building containing 69 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments - including six income-restricted affordable units - and semi-subterranean parking for 61 vehicles.

Ferrier Architecture Studio is designing the podium-type development, which would consist of five levels of wood-frame construction above a single-story concrete base.  Plans show two small courtyards at the building's second floor, as well as a large rooftop deck.

The apartment complex, which is being entitled with Transit Oriented Communities affordable housing incentives, could receive approvals in the first half of 2020.

Urban Stearns, founded by Shai Cohen and Lee Rubinoff, has a handful of multifamily residential developments in the entitlement process currently, including a similar project near Echo Park and a mixed-use building in San Pedro.

The 1350 Court Street development follows on the heels of multiple apartment buildings now under construction in on nearby properties, including projects from the Bond Companies, 4Site Real Estate, and Aragon Properties Corp.
