One year after construction was set to begin, developers MCAP Partners have cleared a property just north of Hollywood Boulevard for the construction of a $60-million apartment complex.

The seven-story development, called the Lombardi, would rise at 1717 N. Bronson Avenue.  Plans call for 86 apartments - including two-story penthouse suites - with amenities such as a swimming pool and a lounge.

Steinberg Hart is designing the podium-type building, which is named for the adjacent Lombardi House.  The 105-year-old Victorian home now contains four rental villas, and its adjacent barn serves as event space.

The construction timeline for the Lombardi was previously estimated as approximately two years.

Across the Hollywood Freeway, Wood Partners is already in the midst of construction on a larger apartment complex featuring ground-floor retail space.

Update: The project site will be used as surface parking lot temporarily as its developers seek new entitlements for a larger building through the Transit Oriented Communities guidelines.
