The Los Angeles City Planning Commission will review West Angeles Community Development Corporation's proposal to construct a senior affordable housing complex in Park Mesa Heights.

The project, submitted to the City in January, would replace a small commercial building at 54th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard with a five-story structure featuring 70 residential units and 2,000 square feet of street-fronting commercial space.  Plans also call for a podium-level courtyard, rooftop amenity decks and a dedicated parking garage.

Santa Monica-based KFA is designing the podium-type building, which would be clad mostly in plaster.

Two appeals of the proposed development will be considered by the Commission.  The Planning Department's staff recommendation is to sustain the project's approvals.

The subject property is located near the future site of Metro's upcoming Crenshaw/Slauson Station.
