A proposal to construct a new hotel next to the Hermosa Beach Pier took another step forward this month, with the publication of a draft environmental impact report for the project.

Bolour Associates is behind the proposed development, which would replace a parking lot and a handful of small commercial buildings at the corner of Pier Avenue and The Strand with a three-story building featuring a 100-room boutique hotel with 22,461 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant uses.  Plans also call for ancillary features such as a fitness center, a meeting room, a banquet room, and 178 parking spaces in a two-level subterranean garage.

Provenance Hotels, an operator of boutique hotels based out of Portland, has been signed to operate the Strand & Pier development, according to a project website.

HKS Architects is designing the low-rise building, which is highlighted by a publicly accessible rooftop terrace and a second-floor courtyard with a splash pad.

Construction of the Strand & Pier hotel is expected to occur over 24 to 30 months.  Depending on the speed of the entitlement and permitting process, construction could begin as early as winter 2019 and conclude in 2021.
