Seven months after we dropped by, the wooden skeleton of the Weddington Apartments is largely complete across the street from North Hollywood Station.

The project, which is being built by Greystar Real Estate Partners, is rising on two blocks of Chandler Boulevard to the west of Vineland Avenue.  Plans call for two five-story buildings containing 329 apartments above 4,300 square feet of ground-floor retail space and basement parking.

Designed by VTBS Architects, the Weddington is portrayed with a contemporary look and an exterior wrapped with metal sheets and brick veneer.  The new construction wraps around a 114-year-old single-family dwelling, the one-time home of Wilson Weddington, whose name inspired that of the new apartments.  Weddington was a co-founder of the town of Lankershim which was eventually annexed into Los Angeles and morphed into the neighborhood of North Hollywood.

Completion of the Weddington is anticipated in 2019.

Greystar is one of the more prolific builders and managers of apartment communities in the Los Angeles area.  Besides the Weddington, its ongoing projects include the Arts District's AMP Lofts, the Cobalt apartments in Palms, and the Neptune Marina development.
