More than one year after we last checked in, the steel framework of the Culver Studios expansion is largely complete at 9336 W. Washington Boulevard.
The $620-million project from Hackman Capital Partners adds five new buildings to the 14-acre studio campus, which was founded more than a century ago by filmmaker Thomas Ince. The completed development will add approximately 413,000 square feet of office and production space to the property, as well as two parking structures with room for over 1,900 vehicles.
Construction of the Gensler-designed campus is occurring in phases, the first of which involved the restoration of the studio's Colonial-style mansion at the front of the property.
Completion of the Culver Studios expansion is expected in 2021.
As of 2017, the bulk of the Culver Studios complex has been pre-leased by tech giant Amazon, which has signed a deal to occupy 530,000 square feet of the property, as well as Hackman Capital's neighboring Culver Steps development. The Seattle-based company is set to move its Amazon Studios, IMDb, Amazon Video, and World Wide Advertising to the campus from their current home in Santa Monica.
