Developer Michael Harrah has unveiled plans to redevelop the 20-acre Santa Ana property that once housed the Orange County Register newspaper.

The $1-billion project, named 625IVE for its address at 625 Grand Avenue, calls for the construction of 2.35 million square feet of offices, multifamily residential units, retail space and a hotel.  The proposed development includes refurbishing existing buildings on the property, as well as the construction of up to three high-rise buildings on current parking lots.

Preliminary renderings show the property with new and historic construction bisected by a network of pedestrian paseos.  The tallest of the proposed towers, at a maximum height of 493 feet, would reign as the tallest building in Orange County at completion.

Harrah is also behind plans for the long-delayed One Broadway Plaza office tower, which would rise from a nearby site in Santa Ana.  He has estimated that construction of the $450-million development would take up to three years, although past claims to start construction on the project have fallen flat.
