Non-profit developer SRO Housing Corp. is planning a permanent supportive housing complex in Echo Park, according to an application submitted yesterday to the City of Los Angeles.
The proposed development, called Alvarado Kent, would replace two single-story commercial buildings at the southwest corner of Alvarado and Kent Streets. Plans call for the construction of an 81-unit apartment complex, of which 80 units would be reserved for low-income households. Requested entitlements include Transit Oriented Communities incentives allowing for increased height and reduced open space.
A rendering posted to the SRO Housing website depicts a contemporary six-story edifice featuring multiple roof decks. A project description indicates that Alvarado Kent would serve chronically homeless persons - including veterans and those with mental illnesses - earning at or below 30 and 60 percent of the area median income. On-site amenities would include a community kitchen, a lounge, a computer room, a laundry facility, and offices for supportive services.
Additional details regarding the project are not stated in its case filing.
SRO Housing is also planning a seven-story, 121-unit permanent supportive housing project in Westlake, and recently broke ground on a 100-unit building on Hartford Avenue.
One block north of the Echo Park development, a market-rate apartment complex with ground-floor retail is planned at 916-918 N. Alvarado Street.
