The surreal desert-like scene below is not a mirage, but rather a present-day depiction of the former Hollywood Park site that will one day be home to two NFL teams.

Last year, Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke officially broke ground on the $2.6-billion Inglewood stadium that will house both the Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers.  The 70,000-seat venue, designed by HKS Architects, is scheduled to open in 2019.

The football stadium will eventually be the centerpiece of a 260-acre mixed-use community that is being developed by Wilson Meany and Stockbridge Capital.  A full buildout of the project would allow for up to 3,000 residential units, a 300-key hotel, 25 acres of park space and 620,000 square feet of office and retail.

Both developments will figure prominently in Los Angeles' bid for the 2024 Olympic Games, as well as Super Bowl LV in 2021.
