Three years into construction, the $1-billion Oceanwide Plaza development has topped out across the street from Staples Center and the L.A. Live complex.
The project, which comes from the American affiliate of the Chinese developer Oceanwide Real Estate Group, spans across an entire city block bounded by Figueroa, 11th, 12th and Flower Streets. Its tallest tower, rising to a structural peak of 677 feet above street level, will feature a 184-key Park Hyatt Hotel, in addition to 164-branded residences and amenities.
Immediately south, twin 40-story towers will contain an additional 340 for-sale residences, rising above a two-acre amenity deck featuring a fitness center, a basketball court, and other spaces. The project also includes an open-air retail galleria called the Collection of Oceanwide Plaza, featuring more than 150,000 square feet of shops and restaurants.
CallisonRTKL designed the towers, which will greet Figueroa Street with a 700-foot LED ribbon, while SWA Group is designing its open-space amenities.
Completion of Oceanwide Plaza is anticipated in 2019.
The project joins a handful of new developments reshaping the Figueroa corridor, including the nearby Circa towers that are nearing completion, as well as a W Hotel that is expected to break ground at 11th Street later this year.
