In the L.A. River-adjacent community of Frogtown, construction is now underway for a new multifamily residential development at 1901 Blake Avenue.

The project, which is being developed by Los Angeles-based real estate investment firm Uncommon, calls for the construction of a three-story complex featuring 52 one- and two-bedroom apartments - including five very low-income affordable units - above a 58-car subterranean parking garage.

KFA Architecture is designing 1901 Blake, which is depicted in renderings as two interconnected low-rise buildings aligned along a central courtyard.  Other open spaces planned within the project include a 5,500-square-foot courtyard and a community room.

A design narrative submitted to the Los Angeles City Planning Commission in 2018 described the project as borrowing "from the vernacular of vintage industrial buildings," while also incorporating contemporary residential design.

The project site is located just west of a similar project slated to bring housing and commercial space to Frogtown, and near the location of a new bridge which will span across the L.A. River to the Taylor Yard.

Uncommon is also developing a new housing and commercial complex in Chatsworth - a campus that is now home to the new headquarters of toy maker MGA Entertainment.
