The project, which is rising from a .634-acre site which was formerly home to The Palm Restaurant, will eventually consist of a five-story structure featuring 46 apartments - including eight deed-restricted affordable units - above ground-floor restaurant space and a two-level basement garage.
Steinberg Hart and WORKPLAYS Studio are designing 9001 Santa Monica, which which is depicted as a contemporary low-rise structure wrapped with balconies. Plans also call for a fitness center, a pool deck, and a south-facing amenity deck.
At the time of the project's groundbreaking in February 2020, GPI companies expected to complete construction in 2021.
The development is the latest in a series of new housing and mixed-use projects on the border between West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. One block west of the GPI Companies project, Faring completed work on The Harland condominiums at 702 N. Doheny Drive. South across Santa Monica Boulevard, the 241-key Robertson Lane hotel development and the 300,000-square-foot Melrose Triangle complex remain in the planning stages.
GPI Companies, which is headquartered in Brentwood, is also behind plans for a 26-story apartment tower at the former site of Amoeba Music in Hollywood, and is now in the process of converting a former Macy's department store in Rancho Park into offices. The company previously partnered on the retail and office components of the 25-acre NoHo West development.
