The Long Beach Planning Commission has green-lit developer AMCAL Multi-Housing, Inc.'s proposal to construct a mixed-use affordable housing complex in the city's Mid-Town area.

The proposed development, known as Las Ventanas, would rise from a property at 1759 Long Beach Boulevard, directly across the street from the Blue Line's Pacific Coast Highway Station.  Plans call for a four-story building, featuring 102 residential units and 3,800 square feet of ground-floor retail space in three separate storefronts.  The project, which would be built to LEED Gold certification, also would create a new corner plaza and improvements to the surrounding streetscape.

According to a representative of AMCAL, the apartments will be set aside for households making between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income.

Las Ventanas is scheduled for consideration by the full Long Beach City Council in January 2018 and could break ground in late 2018.
