The project, which is being developed by Wakeland Housing & Development Corporation, would rise from a currently vacant property at the northwest corner of 48th Street and Normandie Avenue. Plans call for the construction of a five-story, 43-unit apartment building - priced for low- and very low-income households - above a four-car parking garage.
According to a staff report, the apartments will be rented to currently unsheltered seniors facing chronic health conditions.
Abode Communities is designing the project, which is called Chesterfield. A rendering depicts a contemporary low-rise building, clad with stucco and fiber cement boards and capped by a rooftop deck.
A staff report to the Planning Commission recommends that the project, which is seeking streamlined permitting via SB 35, should be approved.
Wakeland is also behind plans for a senior affordable housing development at the intersection of Pico and Crenshaw Boulevards.
