Construction is scheduled to begin in early December for a roughly $30-million affordable and supportive housing complex on the border between Koreatown and Mid-Wilshire, Domus Development announced earlier this month.

The Solaris apartments, slated to replace a parking lot at 1141 S. Crenshaw Boulevard, calls for the construction of a five-story building featuring 43 residential units in addition to on-site supportive services and a small street-level parking area.

Domus is developing the apartments through a partnership with the Koreatown Youth & Community Center (KYCC), a local service provider, as well as the Jenesse Center, a non-profit organization specializing in domestic violence prevention and intervention.

"Each new affordable housing development brings opportunities for families and individuals to be in a quality home and to be in community," said Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly Mitchell in a statement. "These 43 new homes are government programs in action and couldn't be done without partners like Domus, KYCC, and Jenesse."

The apartments at Solaris will be reserved to households earning up to 30 percent of the area median income, with plans calling for a mix of one- and two-bedroom units. On-site amenities will include a community room, a learning center, a communal laundry facility, and a rear yard.

FSY Architects is designing the building, which is depicted in a rendering as a contemporary low-rise structure.

Walton Construction, the project's general contractor, is on pace to complete work in March 2023.

Funding sources for Solaris include Measure HHH and Los Angeles County's No Place Like Home program.

Solaris is the fourth Los Angeles supportive housing project from Domus to break ground in recent months, following new developments in Panorama City, Echo Park, and another Koreatown apartment complex.
