Skid Row Housing Trust is moving forward with plans for its latest project in Downtown Los Angeles.
The proposed development, located at 713 E. 5th Street in the Industrial District, calls for the construction of an eight-story building that would feature 51 residential units - including 50 affordable "efficiency" dwelling units and one manager's apartments - in addition to 433 square feet of residential support services and a single parking space.
To make way for the new construction, SRHT proposes one of its existing facilities - a 1920s three-story edifice which contains 46 SRO-type units.
Togawa Smith Martin is designing the contemporary mid-rise structure, which would rise to a maximum height of 102 feet above ground-level. The building's lower levels would use a brick facade with tall windows to mimic other nearby structures, while its upper floors would be clad with metal panels.
Plans also call for open space amenities within the new development, including a roof deck, a community room, a small patio, and a vegetable garden.
According to the project's initial study, construction of 713 E. 5th Street is anticipated to occur over an approximately 24-month period, with completion anticipated in the second half of 2021.
