Architectural plans posted by the Echo Park Neighborhood Council offer a first look at a proposed supportive housing development from SRO Housing Corp.

The Alvarado Kent development, named for its location at the intersection of Alvarado and Kent Streets, calls for the construction of a six-story building featuring 81 apartments - 80 of which would be set aside for low-income households - and parking for 32 vehicles.

Egan Simon Architecture is designing the podium-type building, which is portrayed with a contemporary look.  Architectural plans show amenities including a community room, a recreation room, and multiple outdoor decks.

According to the SRO Housing website, the project will cater to chronic homeless persons with mental illnesses, homeless veterans earning 30 percent or less than the area median income, and general low-income persons earning 60 percent or less than the area median income.  Other amenities include a community kitchen, a lounge, a computer room, laundry facilities, and on-site supportive services.

SRO Housing is also developing two projects in Westlake: a 121-unit apartment complex on Ingraham Street and an under-construction 100-unit building on Hartford Street.
