The arrival of two tower cranes signals the next stage of construction at the $300-makeover of the Sawtelle's Trident Center office complex.

The property, located at 11355-11377 W. Olympic Boulevard, is being rebranded as Lumen West L.A.  Originally built in the 1980s, the complex consists of a pair of 10-story buildings which contained more than 300,000 square feet of offices, a 2,000-car garage, and a large amenity deck.

Under the approved renovation, McCarthy Cook and Northwood Investors will bridge between the two mid-rise structures, adding approximately 115,000 square feet of new office space and ground-floor retail.

The Gensler-designed project also calls for recladding the building with a glass curtain wall, discarding its original stone and concrete exterior.

Completion of construction is expected in 2022.

Lumen West L.A. joins a slew of other large office projects planned along the Olympic corridor, include a 128,000-square-foot complex slated for the former site of a Sports Chalet and an eight-story, 135,000-square-foot building proposed on Sawtelle Boulevard.

Just over a half-mile west at the intersection of Olympic and Bundy Drive, construction kicked off earlier this year for the West Edge, a mixed-use complex which will include housing, retail, and 200,000 square feet of office space.
