The Kor Group, in partnership with Stork/Alma Development group, has announced the official start of construction on the Proper Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.

First announced in July 2015, the future 148-room lifestyle hotel will be located in the former YMCA Building at 11th Street and Broadway, near the intersection of the Fashion District and South Park.

Under the adaptive reuse project, the 91-year-old building will add features such as a rooftop pool and lounge deck.  The development also includes the renovation of many of the building's historic spaces into guest rooms and public areas, including a library, an indoor pool and a basketball court turned screening room.

Other partners on the Proper DTLA location include EB5 Capital which provided financing, McGuire Builders and architecture firm Omgivning.

The project, which is scheduled to open in Spring 2018, is one of several upcoming locations for the new Proper Hospitality chains, including outposts in Santa Monica and San Francisco.  One location is already open in Hollywood.

Proper's Downtown hotel adds on to the already booming South Broadway corridor, which is already home to the hip Ace Hotel, and will soon add a Hoxton hotel in the historic L.A. Railway Building.  Other firms such as Jade Enterprises and G.H. Palmer Associates also have ongoing projects in the neighborhood.
