A pair of single-family homes near the Sunset Strip has made way for a new multifamily residential development.
The project, now under construction just south of Fountain Avenue at 1136-1142 N. La Cienega Boulevard, calls for the construction of a new five-story edifice containing 23 apartments above two levels of subterranean parking.
LOHA is designing the project, which is depicted as a series of offset, boxy masses which cantilever over the northern property line and create an outdoor deck facing south.
"By eliminating the typical private courtyard solution and pushing the housing volume to one side of the building lot, the design provides each residential unit with public park frontage," reads a description from a project landing page on the LOHA website.
Plans call for an exterior of recycled aluminum, layered to reflect light and prevent heat gain. A series of landscaped gardens - irrigated with a passive water collection system - are also planned to reduce the project's heat island effect.
Los Angeles County Assessor records indicate that the property is owned by 1136/1142 La Cienega, LLC, an entity managed by Yosef Simsoly, which acquired the land in 2015.
At the time of the project's approval by the West Hollywood Planning Commission in 2017, it was reported that four of the proposed residential units would be set aside as affordable housing.
The development site is located a short distance south of the intersection of La Cienega and Sunset Boulevards, where a LOHA-designed hotel complex now stands.
