The Eastsider reports that the Bob Baker Theatre has signed a 10-year lease for the approximately 10,000-square-foot space, which is being designed by Escher GuneWardena Architecture and TheatreDNA.
In announcing its new location, the Theatre has also revealed that is has become a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, allowing it to solicit donations to support its mission. Click here to do so.
A grand opening is expected in Fall 2019.
In its search for a new location, the Bob Baker Marionette Theater was represented by Brittany Corlyn and David Passman of The Passman Group. Pro bono legal counsel was provided by Scott Moore and Crowell & Moring LLP.
The original Bob Baker Marionette Theatre, located at 1335 W. 1st Street in the Westlake district, was designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 2009. Though its namesake tenant has moved on, the building itself is slated to be preserved and incorporated into the design of a new apartment complex.
