According to plans filed earlier this week with the City of Los Angeles, a nondescript shopping center may soon give way for a new residential-retail complex in MacArthur Park.

The proposed development, slated for a 1.2-acre site at 2940 West Seventh Street, would consist of a six-story structure featuring 180 residential units and 15,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant space.  Records from the Department of City Planning indicate that is seeking both a reduction in the required amount of parking and a density bonus, indicating the inclusion of an affordable housing component.

An exact timeline and design for the proposed low-rise complex is currently unclear.  A similar project is planned one block west on a currently vacant lot near the intersection of Seventh and Hoover Streets.
