Venice Community Housing is one step closer to redeveloping its administrative offices with affordable housing, according to a motion introduced earlier this month by City Councilmember Mike Bonin.

The motion, which was adopted yesterday by the City Council, calls for the City of Los Angeles to approve the release of $13.9 million in multifamily housing revenue bonds to finance the construction of the Rose Avenue Apartments.  The proposed development, which would rise at 718-720 E. Rose Avenue, calls for the construction of a four-story building containing 34 apartments reserved for the formerly homeless, one manager's apartments, and parking for 17 vehicles.

The project is being designed by Brooks + Scarpa and Tina Chee Landscape Studio.  Renderings depict the building with a U-shaped frame above a single-story podium, with apartments flanking a central courtyard.  Other uses would include a laundry facility, a recreation room, social services offices, and new offices for Venice Community Housing.

Venice Community Housing has built several affordable and permanent supportive housing in Westside neighborhoods, including a similar project in Del Rey.  VCH is also partnering with Hollywood Community Housing Corp. on a proposed 140-unit affordable development along the Venice Canals.
