The City of Lynwood has voted to adopt a general plan amendment and zone change for a vacant lot near Yvonne Burke-John D. Ham Park to facilitate the development of a new affordable apartment building.

The approximately 38,000-square-foot property, located on the west side of Atlantic Avenue between Lavinia and Agnes Avenues, is slated for the construction of a four-story building that would feature 66 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments that would be reserved for moderate- and low-income families.  Other project features would include a gym, common open space, and a surface and sub-surface garage for 119 vehicles.

The project site was previously slated for the construction of a senior apartment complex.  For unclear reasons, that proposed development did not come to fruition, and the City of Lynwood negotiated a replacement development agreement to construct affordable housing on the lot.

The general plan amendment and zone change were approved on September 4.
