The adaptive reuse of the historic California Walnut Growers Building forges ahead in the Arts District, as the Hillcrest Company converts the 1920s structure into residential units.

The eight-story structure, located at the northwest corner of 7th and Mill Streets, was built in 1921 as the headquarters of the California Walnut Growers Association.  The Hillcrest Company has picked up on previously entitled plans from Linear City, according to Curbed LA.

Although an exact number of units has not been specified for the property, city records point to 57 live/work apartments above ground-floor commercial space.

A short distance east along 7th Street, construction is underway for a ground-up mixed-use complex from Greystar Real Estate Partners.
