On April 17, Hollywood Community Housing Corporation will break ground on a $41-million affordable housing development in West Compton.

The Stanford Avenue Apartments, slated for a vacant 2.7-acre site at 14733-14803 South Stanford Avenue, will consist of a three-story building featuring 85 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, priced for households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income.  A total of 53 units will be set aside for formerly homeless households.

Rents will be set between $545 and $1,512 per month, according to the California State Treasurer's office.

Pasadena-based Shelter Architects is designing the project, which will be split into two buildings featuring distinct courtyards and amenities.  A shared community garden would be located at the northeastern corner of the development site, across from a surface parking lot which wraps around the apartments.

Hollywood Community Housing and Shelter Architects recently completed work on a 49-unit affordable development in El Monte.
