Six months after we last dropped by, concrete and rebar are rising above ground at the NoHo West complex, where construction is now in full swing for a large apartment complex from Trammell Crow Residential.

The project, called the Alexan NoHo West, spans an L-shaped site bounded by Radford Avenue and Erwin Streets.  Plans call for two buildings - a podium-type structure and a wrap-style complex - featuring 644 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments with on-site parking.

AO is designing the buildings, which will rise up to six stories in height, but scale down towards the eastern and western property lines to provide a transition to adjacent residential neighborhoods.  Renderings depict contemporary low-rise structures.

The Alexan, which broke ground earlier this year, is on pace to open in phases between late 2021 and early 2023.

The initial phase of NoHo West, located on an adjacent property, consists of a 190,000-square-foot shopping mall and a former Macy's department store turned 500,000-square-foot office building.

Tenants for the project, which was developed by GPI Companies and Merlone Geier, include 24 Hour Fitness, Fantastic Sams, Jersey Mike's, Regal Cinemas, Robeks, See's Candies, Starbucks, and Trader Joe's.

Dallas-based Trammell Crow Residential's other Los Angeles County include a 436-unit apartment complex planned next to Metro's Monrovia Station and a proposed high-rise complex near the Long Beach World Trade Center.
