Affordable housing is planned for a long-vacant property in Mar Vista.

The 17,000-square-foot lot, located at 3960 Grand View Boulevard, was cleared of a single-family dwelling more than 12 years ago.  In its place, Community Corporation of Santa Monica is pursuing the development of a low-income housing complex known as Vista Ballona.  Plans call for a six-story edifice which would feature 50 one- and two-bedroom dwellings, as well as a laundry facility, a central courtyard, a community room, a rooftop garden, and basement parking for 40 vehicles.

According to a notice issued by the City of Los Angeles, the approximately $34-million development will provide 37 units to low-income individuals and families earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income, and 12 units for very low-income individuals with developmental disabilities earning 30 percent of the area median income or less.

Community Corp. is currently seeking $3.98 million in federal funds for the Vista Ballona development.  The City of Los Angeles is expected to submit a request for the money before the end of this month.

Community Corp., as might be expected by its full name, does the bulk of its work in Santa Monica.  The non-profit developer completed a 64-unit affordable apartment complex near the Expo Line last year, and has several other projects planned in Santa Monica.
