The project, located on a City-owned property at 1035 S. Berendo Street, will consist of a six-story building featuring 42 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments in addition, split between formerly homeless individuals and general lower-income households.
The approximately $26.3-million project will cater to households earning offer monthly rents ranging between $548 and $1,357 per month for eligible households, according to a staff report to the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee.
Urban Architecture Lab is designing Berendo Sage, which is depicted as a contemporary podium-type building which places its vertical circulation areas along its exterior. In addition to housing, the project will include a rooftop community room, a laundry facility, and offices for on-site service providers.
The development is being funded through a variety of sources - including tax credit financing and a more than $6-million allocation through Proposition HHH.
West Hollywood Community Housing is building several affordable and permanent supportive housing projects in the Central Los Angeles area, including the recently-completed Rampart Mint apartments in Westlake and Mariposa Lily, a proposed development which would rise four blocks west of Berendo Sage.
