A half-block west of Lincoln Boulevard, non-profit developer Venice Community Housing Corp. has razed its former headquarters to make way for the construction of a more than $18-million supportive housing complex.

The Rose Avenue Apartments, located at 718. E Rose Avenue, will consist of a four-story edifice featuring 35 apartments - including 34 very low-income units reserved for transitional-aged youth and persons who have experienced chronic homelessness - above parking for 17 vehicles.  Plans call for a mix of studio and one-bedroom units, as well as a laundry facility, offices for supportive services, and a 2,500 square foot ground-floor space which will serve as Venice Community Housing's new headquarters.

Brooks + Scarpa is designing the low-rise building, which would be built with wood-frame construction.  The U-shaped footprint of the building would wrap around a central courtyard, with additional open space provided by upper-level setbacks.

In addition to the under-construction project on Rose Avenue, Venice Community Housing is developing two additional supportive housing projects in the neighborhood for which it is named.

At 2467-2471 Lincoln Boulevard, the Venice Community Housing has partnered with the non-profit organization Safe Place for Youth on plans a similar 40-unit housing complex.

Farther west near Venice Beach, the developer has teamed with Hollywood Community Housing Corp. on a proposed 140-unit complex which would cater to both formerly homeless persons and general low-income households.
