Not long after we last stopped by in August 2018, construction kicked into high gear for the 28-story residential tower at 1133 Hope Street in Downtown Los Angeles.

The project, which broke ground in March 2017, had only progress to its fourth floor above ground after a year-and-a-half of construction.  But just eight months later, the tower finds itself on its 24th floor.

At completion, the 330-foot building will feature 200 residential units atop a podium featuring a parking structure and 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.  Chris Dikeakos Architects is designing the project, which will feature a glass exterior and amenities at the podium and roof levels.

While construction has ramped up at 1133 Hope, another nearby project has slowed to a standstill.  After a year of little progress, it was announced last month that work was being put on hold at the three-tower Oceanwide Plaza development one block west, across the street from Staples Center.

Other high-rise projects nearby are proceeding at a more brisk pace, including Onni Group's two-tower Hope + Flower development.
