Nearly 10 months after breaking ground in Hawthorne, the wood skeleton of a mixed-use apartment complex is beginning to rise across the street from SpaceX headquarters.

The project, located at 12540 Crenshaw Boulevard, is being developed by the Dinerstein Cos.  Plans call for a pair of five-story buildings containing 230 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments, in addition to 3,100 square feet of ground-floor retail space and an above-grade parking garage.

Steinberg Hart is designing the project, which is called the Millennium Hawthorne.  A rendering depicts a contemporary mid-rise structure, which will include amenities such as a fitness center, a swimming pool, an outdoor deck, and numerous street-fronting courtyards.

In addition to its proximity to SpaceX headquarters, the new development is located in close proximity to the Green (C) Line's Crenshaw Station, as well as the future offices of Amazon subsidiary Ring.

The Dinerstein Cos. is also finishing construction of a similar mixed-use project in Santa Monica.
