El Segundo-based developer Welcome Group, Inc. has completed construction of a new hotel near Los Angeles International Airport.

The AC Hotel Los Angeles South Bay, located at 2130 Maple Avenue in El Segundo, consists of a six-story building featuring 180 guest rooms.  Other features include a rooftop deck, a fitness center, and meeting rooms.

The building, designed by AXIS/GFA Architecture + Design, consists of five levels of wood-frame construction above a concrete podium.

The hotel is located one block from the Green Line's Mariposa Station, which will eventually offer a one-seat ride to a $500-million light rail station planned at Aviation Boulevard and 96th Street.  The transit hub is expected to link with an already under-construction people mover system that will connect to the LAX central terminal area.

The project sits a block north of a 150,000-square-foot office campus now being built at Campus Drive and Nash Street, a portion of which will become the new American headquarters of EVA Airways.

AC Hotels, now a brand under the Marriott International umbrella, was founded in Spain in 1998.  Besides the El Segundo location, a 176-room AC Hotel opened earlier this year in the Beverly Grove neighborhood, and another is planned at the Fig + Pico development in Downtown Los Angeles.
