The Coalition for Responsible Community Development is planning a pair of mixed-use affordable housing projects in South Los Angeles.

The two developments, slated for the east side of Main Street between 67th and 68th Streets, would replace a single-story light industrial building that is currently home to Main Electric Supply Co with 112 affordable housing units in addition to supportive services.

The first project, to be located at 67th and Main, would consist of a five-story building featuring 52 two- and three-bedroom apartments, catering to low-income families, transition aged youth, veterans, and chronically homeless persons.

The second development, called 68th and Main, calls for the construction of a four-story building featuring 60 studio, one-, and two-bedroom dwellings, catering to transition aged youth, homeless adults, and veterans.

Both projects would include ancillary features such as:

  • a child care center;
  • cafes;
  • case management offices;
  • fitness centers;
  • outdoor courtyards;
  • a lap pool;
  • resident lounges;
  • community rooms;
  • a dance studio;
  • laundry facilities; and
  • parking for 64 vehicles.

According to a notice distributed by the City of Los Angeles, the Coalition is seeking $35.7 million in federal funding for the two projects, including $19.5 million for the 67th & Main project and $16.2 million for the 68th & Main project.  The Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles is expected to issue a request for the release of the funds by July 1.

The Coalition recently broke ground on a separate project one block south at the intersection of 69th and Main Streets.  That project, a joint venture with LA Family Housing, will offer 50 units of permanent supportive housing.
