Roughly 18 months after breaking ground in Westlake, the wood-and-concrete frame of a supportive housing development from SRO Housing Corp. is starting to show progress.

The Hartford Villa Apartments, located on a formerly vacant site at 459 S. Hartford Avenue, will consist of a seven-story building featuring 100 affordable units of permanent supportive housing and one manager's apartment upon completion.

The project will provide housing for chronically homeless veterans and low-income individuals making 50 percent or less than the area median income, according to a landing page on the SRO Housing website.

Renderings portray Spanish Colonial Revival style building, which would include a community kitchen, a lounge, a computer room, and on-site supportive services.  KFA Architecture is designing the project.

The project is one of a handful of new projects in development by SRO Housing Corp., including a second Westlake apartment complex which would replace a parking lot just south of Wilshire Boulevard.  The non-profit developer is also planning new housing in Echo Park and Westmont.
