Another Old Fourth Ward apartment hub is under construction on one of the last developable parcels bordering the neighborhood’s marquee park.
Along the western edge of Historic Fourth Ward Park, Trammell Crow Residential has razed five commercial buildings and warehouses and is starting land development for a project called Alexan Fourth Ward.
The six-story building will house 320 units on 2.9 acres at 652 Angier Avenue, according to building permits.

Expect enough retail space—roughly 1,900 square feet—for a coffee shop or small restaurant facing the park’s playground area, next to Alexan’s leasing office and a lobby/fitness space.

The Rule Joy Trammell + Rubio-designed Alexan apartments will rise just north of AMLI Parkside and join well over 1,000 new rentals that have emerge in blocks around the park since it opened a decade ago.
Elsewhere ITP, Trammell Crow’s recent multifamily ventures have included Alexan Avondale and the under-construction Alexan Summerhill.
The company—considered one of the country’s largest homebuilders—was also behind Alexan Buckhead Village, Alexan EAV, Alexan 1133 in Decatur, and several others under the same brand.
Directly across the park, controversial plans for a 12-story condo building have been nixed in favor of three, six-story townhomes expected to be priced in the $2-million range.
