After a monumentally sucky 2020, Atlanta’s been on something of a roll lately when it comes to positive national media attention focused on a post-pandemic world.
Back in March our fair, leafy metropolis found its way onto NBC’s Today show as part of a segment spotlighting the “Top 10 cities to live in after the pandemic,” alongside Sunbelt brethren such as Phoenix, Austin, Nashville, Charleston, and Tampa.
A more recent nod puts ATL praise on a global scale.
Condé Nast Traveler has shortlisted Atlanta as part of a 2021 Hot List advising readers on “Where to Travel Next.” It's a compendium of nine destinations the venerable magazine is “most excited about right now” as COVID-19 restrictions continue to ease.
The Hot List, published online Friday, marks the 25th anniversary of Condé Nast’s annual spotlight of the world’s best in lodging, travel, transportation, and food. Each destination shortlisted has been a study in resilience, per the editors.
Atlanta is slotted alongside smaller, vibrant American cities Tucson and Chattanooga—and more exotic locales such as Dubai, Zurich, Singapore, and the Caribbean in general.
Titled “It’s a new day in Atlanta,” the article focuses on Atlanta’s ability to act as a springboard for new beginnings, whether it be film industry opportunities in the “Hollywood of the South,” the BeltLine as a launchpad for artists, or new Black-owned coffeeshop Garnet Gal’s in traditionally corporate Buckhead.
“All of this is to say that if you haven’t visited in a while, it’s time,” reads the Atlanta writeup. “It’s a different place, with a palpable energy coursing through its neighborhoods.”
